Getting a drive to us · by post, or ten drop-off points
Send a BitLocker drive in. By form, by email or by phone; then the post, or one of ten drop-off points.
We work by post from anywhere in the UK, and the first thing to try is free and needs no post at all: for most lockouts, finding your recovery key solves it, and the finder page shows you where it is. You only send a drive in if it has failed, or the key is genuinely lost and the data matters. When you do, three things matter: take the drive out of the computer and send the drive on its own, have your recovery key or password ready, and bring the proof of ownership we ask for, because we recover BitLocker drives only for their owners. An engineer replies within a working day with the posting address, the nearest of ten drop-off points, what proof we need, and a booking sheet. Would you sooner talk it through? The telephone rings at the bench.

How to send a drive in.
Every document, out in the open.
Every job runs on one published set of paperwork — Terms of service (PDF). The contract itself is held by Easy Data Recovery Ltd, company number NI625698, ICO registration ZC173784, trading on this site as BitLocker Data Recovery. We recover BitLocker drives only for their owners, behind proof of ownership or written authorisation. VAT is charged at the standard rate on every figure quoted.
The questions that come up first.
Do I even need to send my drive in?
Often not. For most BitLocker lockouts the drive is healthy and finding your recovery key solves it, which is free and needs no post. The finder page shows you where the key is. You only send a drive in if it has failed, or the key is genuinely lost and the data matters.
Why is there no address on the site?
So that every parcel that arrives is already matched to a case. The posting address comes by email in reply to the form, with a booking sheet to print; the sheet inside the parcel is what matches it to your enquiry. You can also hand the parcel in at one of ten drop-off points.
Do you take the whole laptop?
No, with one exception. Take the drive out and send the drive on its own; whole laptops and desktops are not accepted. The exception is a machine with a soldered SSD, such as some Surfaces, where the storage cannot be removed and the whole unit comes in; tell us the model and we will say which applies.
What proof of ownership do you need, and why?
Proof that the drive is yours or that you are authorised to have it recovered, a receipt, the device serial, a company letter or written authorisation from the owner, with photo ID. We recover BitLocker drives only for their owners, and the check keeps the service lawful under the Computer Misuse Act.
Can I drop it off, or will you collect?
Drop it off, yes, at one of ten drop-off points across the UK, in a sealed parcel with your name on it and the booking sheet inside; say where you are on the form and the nearest point comes by email. Collect, no. The return leg is by post and paid here.
Nothing chargeable starts before you say yes.
The first look is free and honest. Before a chargeable minute is spent you get one figure in writing and the split explained, and the drive is handled only once we have proof it is yours.
